FAQ

Order Process

  • - HOW FAR IN ADVANCE (BEFORE MY WEDDING) SHOULD I ORDER MY DRESS?
We highly recommend ordering your gown around 6-8 months before the wedding. In general, it takes 4-5 months to get the dress in and another 2-3 months for the alterations process. However, we work closely with designers that have gowns in production in size 0-34 and most gowns can be ordered on a “rush” if need be. So if you're in a time crunch, give us a call and we can talk you through some alternative options. We sometimes also carry a limited small selection of ready to purchase off the rack gowns and sample gowns for our brides who can't wait that long.
  • - WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I FIND THE DRESS?
After you find your perfect dress, we will take your measurements and order your dress as close as possible to your current size. The gown will start to be made just for you. Most gowns can take up to 6 months to be made with some in less time. Once your dress is ready you can pick it up and start your alteration process. Then around 2 months before your wedding you start the alteration process. The gown always needs a few tweaks to fit you perfectly for your big day.
  • - DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR MY GOWN IN FULL BEFORE YOU ORDER IT?
No! We have a variety of flexible payment plans for your convenience.
  • - WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT ARE ACCEPTED?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and cash. We only accept checks for special orders.
  • - I’M PLANING ON LOSING WEIGHT. WHEN SHOULD I PURCHASE MY WEDDING DRESS?
Most brides plan on buying their wedding dresses 9 to 18 months before their wedding day. You should do the same even if you’re planning to lose weight. We recommend buying the dress that fits at your current weight, and if you reach your weight goals, our seamstresses will happily alter the dress to fit you perfectly.

Appointment

  • - DO I NEED AN APPOINTMENT?
A: Yes, an appointment is highly recommended, as it assures you a dedicated stylist and fitting room is available. We do our best to accommodate our walk-in brides based on stylist and fitting room availability.
  • - WHAT SHOULD I BRING WITH ME TO TRY ON WEDDING DRESSES?
When you are fitted you will need everything with you that you are wearing the day of the wedding. The most important purchase to make before your appointment is SHOES. Your hem is pinned according to the heel you are wearing that day. Also, your bra and undergarments change the way your dress fits your body. So we recommend you wear undergarments you feel comfortable to ensure a perfect fit.
  • - HOW LONG DOES AN APPOINTMENT LAST?
A typical wedding gown consultation appointment is booked for one hour.
  • - MAY I BRING FRIENDS WHEN I TRY ON GOWNS?
This is a very special and fun experience for you, so bring the most important people with you to share it with. You will have comfortable seating for up to 4 people not including you. Since sometimes the people in your group are thinking of what they personally like for themselves and having several different opinions makes it much harder to come to a consensus—and it can leave you feeling confused and frustrated, we recommend to trust us and our vast knowledge of wedding dresses, but most of all trust YOURSELF!
  • - DO YOU LIMIT THE NUMBER OF GOWNS I CAN TRY ON?
No, we do not. However, we will carefully choose the gowns we do put you in so that the selection process is stress free. Don’t be surprised if the first gown we put you in is the one you end up saying “yes” to
  • - ARE MEN OR CHILDREN ALLOWED IN THE BOUTIQUE?
Children over the age of 12 and infants are welcome in the salon as long as they are supervised. Men are allowed, but at times they may be asked to wait up front in our lobby for the privacy of other brides shopping.
  • - WHAT HAPPENS IF I’M EARLY OR LATE FOR MY APPOINTMENT?
In order to preserve each bride's unique experience, we try to keep the boutique as quiet and private as possible. As much as we would love to accommodate our brides early for their appointments (and we're glad you're so excited to see us!), we kindly ask that you plan to arrive right at your appointment time. Brides that are running at tad bit late should simply be mindful that the appointments are an hour and a half. We'll see as much as we can with the time remaining in your appointment when you get here.
  • - CAN I CANCEL MY APPOINTMENT?
Sure! However, because our weekend appointments are in such high demand, we do have a more strict cancellation policy for Saturday and Sunday appointments. All cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment. This allows us to help another bride in your allotted time slot. "No shows" or brides canceling without 24 hour notice will be billed a $50 minimum cancellation fee.
  • - WHEN I SHOP FOR MY BRIDAL GOWN, IS IT OK TO COME ALONE?
It is perfectly fine for you to come alone and, in fact, many ladies do this. As much as we love our family and friends, sometimes too many opinions can be overwhelming. We recommend that you keep your party small while shopping in order to be most effective, positive and fun.

  • - DO YOU CARRY PLUS-SIZE DRESSES?
Yes! Shopping for wedding dresses can be stressful for any bride, but for the plus-size bride it can be more of a challenge. We’ve all heard the horror stories of judgmental stylists and embarrassingly small assortments of dresses to try on that leave brides-to-be shaking in their bridal shoes. We have a beautiful collection of plus size gowns in our salon and experienced stylists to guide you through the whole process. We have strapless, sleeves, ball gowns, lace, fit to flare etc… we have it all! We currently have over 50 gowns exclusively in our plus size collection ready for you to try on!
  • - DO YOU SELL ANY OF YOUR GOWN SAMPLES OUT OF STOCK?
We generally only have one or two of a dress style here in the salon as our sample. With some exceptions, our samples may be purchased off the floor. Some of these gowns can be sold at a reduced price. See upcoming sample sales here.
  • - DO YOU HAVE VEILS AND ACCESSORIES?
Yes, we have both! We handpick all accessories and veils, most of which are handmade. Working with smaller, independent designers helps keep costs low, which means you can get the look you want without having to pay an arm and a leg.
  • - WHAT SIZES AND PRICE RANGES DO YOU HAVE?
We have gowns from sizes 0-28, with the bulk of our dresses in the 8-20 range. With all of our gowns at $2,000 and under, we have a dress for every budget. There are many designers that mimic popular styles but use different quality materials and charge a lower price. We will never accept or sell knock-offs (they are easy to spot if you know what you're looking for!)

Alterations

  • - CAN YOU PROVIDE ALTERATIONS AT SERMEH BRIDAL?
Yes, we offer alteration services for bridal gowns. You are not required to use our alterations department; it is available for your convenience, and we are known for the expert fit and fashionable bustles our staff creates. You can be confident that your gown is in the very best of hands. Our team is bridal specialists who understand the fit and construction of bridal gowns. Alterations are an additional cost and will be quoted at your first fitting. Alteration expenses will vary depending upon the work to be done.
  • - WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO MY ALTERATIONS APPOINTMENT?
When you are fitted you will need everything with you that you are wearing the day of the wedding. The most important purchase to make before your appointment is SHOES. Your hem is pinned according to the heel you are wearing that day. Also, your bra and undergarments change the way your dress fits your body. To ensure a perfect fit, you will need to be wearing these garments during your fitting.
  • - HOW MANY FITTINGS WILL I NEED?
As our dresses are not made to measure, we will order your dress in the closest size to you. We usually work on the basis of having two fittings; one to pin the amendments and a second to check that you are happy with the changes.
  • - WILL YOU PRESS MY WEDDING GOWN?
Absolutely, we press your gown for your portrait and your wedding — at no cost to you.

Information

  • - WHAT IS A “SAMPLE SALE”?
This is a special event where we sell select floor model "sample" dresses at super low prices. It's fast-paced, fun, and the perfect opportunity for a bargain hunter to find something special! The gowns have been tried on before so they are not brand new, but they're in great condition and incredibly discounted! The gowns are only available at a discounted price during the show.
  • - WHAT IS THE “BRIDAL SIZE”?
In the bridal world, we order gowns based on our designers' size charts. Bridal gowns tend to run smaller than street size clothing. For example, a bridal size 10 would fit someone who is around a street size 6/8. The sample gowns in our store are usually bridal size 8's, 10's, and 12's.
  • - WHAT IS A “TRUNK SHOW”?
A Trunk Show is an opportunity to see dresses that are new and not in stores yet, or in some cases, dresses that are “just visiting” and are not part of our permanent collection. There is not an actual “show” just more beautiful dresses for you to choose from. View our upcoming events here.*
